ACTIVITIES>>LLANQUIHUE LAKE CURCUIT

There are several cities around the Llanquihue Lake. A short distance from each other allows to go along a circuit offering a variety of attractive landscapes, always under Osorno volcano's custody and the crystal clear waters of the Llanquihue Lake, and go in depth on the legacy of the German colonization.

PUERTO VARAS

Located at the southwestern bank of the Llanquihue Lake and 20 kms. from Puerto Montt. It was founded in 1854 after the German colonization impelled by the colonizing agent Vicente Pérez Rosales. Its main influences stay on its architecture and well maintained gardens, gastronomy and customs.

This is a touristic center located within a frame of pure nature formed by the Llanquihue Lake and the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes, it has diverse attractive places like the Phillipi Park, Calvario Hill and a Casino opened the whole year.

From Plaza de Armas and through Costanera Avenue which constitutes the starting point of the Vicente Pérez Rosales International Route, the way continues showing many lodging, food and camping options like Hermosa Square and Niklitscheck whose characteristics are gentle slopes that favour swimming and nautical sports. Afterwards, it gets to La Poza which is a beautiful lagoon settled among cliffs and abundant vegetation where fly fishing can be practiced. There are also excursions by boat along the lagoon and visits to Loreley Island.

German colonization in the area is reflected on the buildings still remaining and a typical watermill in which the grinding of wheat was done. All the elements used for this task are kept inside. A big part of this scenario has the Llanquihue Lake as a backdrop and also the Osorno volcano. As geting closer to Ensenada Ville, it is possible to see the Calbuco volcano.

Four kilometres away from this beach there is a monument honoring the German colonos built in the year 1936 by the German resident colony in memory of the efforts made by the former immigrants in the area. From this point, there are excellent panoramic views from the Llanquihue Lake and the Cordillera de los Andes with its eternally snowed volcanoes.
