In order to respond to the high demands of aerial transport that faces the Puerto Montt Airport, the second more important at national level, the Public Work Ministry announced that the process of concession to modernize it has begun.
The project, whose cost of investment ascends to 18 million dollars, includes the transformation of the Terminal of passengers; the urbanization of the load enclosure; the extension of the parking; improvement of the crossing at level in the intersection of the F-226 Route and the access road to the airport; construction of a building and facilities for the thermal power station; extension of the plant of served water treatments existing; the setting up of new dependencies on the slab and the increase from two to three doors of boarding.
According to the estimations of the Public Work Ministry, these works will be enough to satisfy the demand of passengers projected for 2010 that ascends to 300 people per hour. Nevertheless, new extensions are considered for 2015, to give supply to the 800 passengers that are supposed to arrive at Puerto Montt for 2025.
According to the terms established by the Public Work Office, the bid process will take nine months, after that; the process of construction of the dependencies will begin and will delay 12 months.
